Sandblasting
What is Sandblasting?
Abrasive blasting (or more commonly referred to as sand blasting) is the operation of forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface, shape a surface, or remove surface contaminants. A pressurized fluid, typically air, or a centrifugal wheel is used to propel the blasting material (often called the media)
Types of Media We Offer
-
Mineral
-
The most common abrasive used for blasting is Sillica Sand, and that happens to fall under this category.
We use this type of abrasive on durable materials, for example: example1, example2
-
For materials that are less durable, such as sheet metal, synthetic media may be required.
The types of synthetic media we use at our shop are: glass bead, and plastic bead.
Some common examples are: sheet metal, example2.
-
At our shop, we offer both corn cobb and walnut shell media.
These soft abrasives are used to avoid damaging the underlying material, similarly to synthetic medias.
Some examples of application would be: when cleaning brick or stone, removing graffiti, or the removal of coatings from printed circuit boards being repaired.
